With ereaders like the Kobo Aura One, I can't see that there would be much need for a screen protector because they are primarily designed for reading. On such ereaders, you are really just swiping or tapping the screen and so they are unlikely to get scratched. I certainly have not put a screen protector on my KA1.
On devices such as the Onyx Note which can be used with a stylus, a screen protector might make very good sense as writing/drawing with the stylus can scratch the screen.
However, I would use and do use a case with both my Onyx Note and my KA1. The case provides a different kind of protection than a screen protector. A screen protector mainly provides for protection against things such as scratches. A case provides protection against other things pressing up against the screen such as when you put it in a backpack with a bunch of other items.
