I don't use them as reading devices but I've been using tablet-pcs since 15 years ago to take notes and I've seen plastics that not even a truck could scratch, and mate screen protectors that let the latest tabletpcs that have glass with less reflections than the max 2.
It can be done and if someone refuses to use a retroiluminated tablet to take notes, this would be a neat upgrade.
Said that, the writing experience of the onyx hardware is so limited that I wouldn't recommend anyone to use the device for it. Just buy a surface go or any other 2 in 1 device and let evernote do the things the way they should be instead of using a crippled limited device, because, let's be honest, unless they fix the lag, and they are not going to do it, it's not worth as a notetaking. The note app is just too simplistic.
