I'll say one more thing and shut up ... it wouldn't have to be a friend in the immediate area. You could have the Amazon package sent to a friend anywhere in the U.S. — they could then turn around and send it to you via USPS and specify "signature required," and then (if you weren't home) you could arrange to pick it up at the Post Office.
