I've had my US Sony Reader here in Oz for going on 9 months now an I had to accept that I was buying it without warranty.
I know there are a number of Kindle owners here in Australia but why would you really bother as you are paying a good deal more for features that are useless outside the US. You are much better off with a Cybook or a Sony Reader, at least you'll get full functionality.
