AFAIK: Preferences->Send to Device/Save to Disk have settings that allow the user to control the metadata saved/sent. For Send its the Metadata Management setting, and for Save its the Update metadata in saved copies setting.

But I don't use Save or Send so I'm not 100% sure they work as I'm interpret them.
