Oppenheim, E Phillips: The Adventures of Mr Joseph P Cray (1925); v.1.

One of the many short story collections which used Oppenheim's favourite format: a series of short stories featuring the same characters, which taken together have an overall narrative arc.

The lead characters in many of these collections are American, because Oppenheim sold the stories individually to glossy high-paying US magazines first, and then issued them in book form.

Joseph P Cray is a middle-aged American, footloose on the Riviera, where he falls into various adventures.

The cover was fabricated from a 1925 magazine illustration of one of the stories.
