I really enjoyed the first few books in this series, but the later books do get extremely "political", with overt rants against various countries, which I found very off-putting. When you get to those books in the series (and I don't recall off-hand when they started getting that way) I'd suggest stopping reading them. The early books are very enjoyable, though!
