I don't know if there is a psychological explanation for it, but I do EXACTLY the same thing. Plus, if I'm really enjoying a book, I purposely slow down my reading so it won't end. I can't wait to know what happens but I don't want to finish the book either. I'm very interested in any theories about this topic, because my daughter is the exact opposite. If she is reading and gets to an exciting part, she reads faster and won't put the book down until she finishes.
