I recently listened to A Fine Day for a Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story by Carol Ann Lee, the story of the last woman to be hanged in Britain (in 1955).
This was a little too much true crime for my tastes; I was interested more in the class and gender issues. Still a good listen for all that; I thought the narrator, Maggie Ollerenshaw, was fine. Mentioning it here for the true crime aficionados.
