Without looking at whether there was collusion or not, or whether the average major publisher's book prices are reasonable or not, I'm trying to figure out what kind of competition this would be - other than more stores - with Agency pricing...
There's no competition if everyone charges the same price.
You mention Amazon might have had to improve their store? Fictionwise had a crappy interface, but their prices made it worth the hassle.
