Great memory! Yes, I'm a mac user. I used ATOM, which is a coding oriented text editor.

I have noted that the type of editor is important, as mentioned in other posts, something about recognizing carriage returns.

I fixed my issue.. For some reason if I edit the file on the device it didn't work. If I copied the file to my desktop, edited it, and copied it back, it works. Go figure.
