I've got some sad news today.

My friends had to put their dog, Luca, who I look after regularly, to sleep. She's had problems with her health for a while now and had gotten worse over the last six months (see a previous post). Their vet kept talking them into trying "one more thing" multiple times. But last night she started have trouble breathing. So this morning they went to the vet one last time.

It was really nice that he came to tell me himself, instead of through an email or instant message.

I was going to look after Luca for three week from the 23rd. I'm still going, they like to have someone look after their home when they go away for a longer time. But it will be so weird without a pet. Before they had children, the oldest is 11 years old now, they would often take their dog with them on vacation. But then they still had a cat. After their oldest boy got a cat allergy the cat was adopted by a family member. So now I will be all by myself. It's going to be really strange to be there and I don't have to plan my days around three dog walk a day.

I was really nervous about looking after a sick dog. What if it was up to me to decide what to do if she took a turn for the worse?

Poor Luca, it's better like this. I just wish that her last six months were better and happier for her.
