Finished The Hill of Devi, a very fascinating non-fiction account of EM Forster narrating the details of his visit and stay at a small princely state in central India during 1912 to 1921. Through letters written home and personal recollections, Forster paints the picture of Dewas State, a strange, bewildering, and enchanting slice of pre-independence India.
In this collection, Forster shares insight into the lives of Indian royalty, and at times humorous accounts of the stark contrasts between excess and poverty he encounters. Intriguing read, after having gone through his another novel A Passage to India. Highly recommended.
