Luckily it isn't the main fridge. Just my mini fridge for drinks and snacks, so I don't have to go downstairs to get something (as my grandfather would say I'm rather lazy than tired). So I was able to store the couple of things I had in the downstairs fridge. And since it was over 25C in the room I keep the fridge in I didn't think a heater would be necessary, also the freezer compartment is tiny. All the ice was gone in half an hour.

When I'm going to do this in winter (I really should do this more often) I will use a space heater with a fan to speed the process.

I had devised a set-up to keep the spring-hinged door of the freezer compartment open. Only to find out the door can be easily popped out and back in again.
