I guess I can turn that off and see what happens next Friday. I do want to be advised, but only within calibres own window. I don't want a big rectangular box to appear on top of full screen video stream that I am watching, in couch mode, which requires me to get up and walk to desktop pc to clear it
I've used Calibre since 0.6.xx and iirc, the pop-up update notification has always been there. I seem to recall there being a checkbox to disable it on the pop-up itself.

The blue line with the latest version available shows regardless of the notification setting.
