From your post, it looked like you skipped the wifi setup on 5.7.4, not on the version that came with your device.

I believe that you need ro register the 5.7.4 before you install the jailbreak and hotfix.

So make sure that you do that.
Before you start #5, make sure you have done this:

A. Create update.bin.tmp.partial on kindle
B. Register your kindle
C. Make sure update.bin.tmp.partial is still there - or put it into airplane mode quickly.

This is because registering and de-registering the kindle clears certain data, the same as hitting the reset button.

I can't remember the specific details, but it is best practice to have the kindle registered before you install the jailbreak and hotfix.
Here's what I did:

#1: Opened the PW3 from new, sealed; It was on 5.8.11 from new.

#2: Never connected WiFi, chose "Setup later" and skipped those steps (but it MAY be registered to me, as it's an Amazon replacement via my account.)

#3: Immediately copied "update.bin.tmp.partial" dir & 5.7.4 firmware, to root of storage.

#4: Tapped "Update" option, and it downgraded me to 5.7.4

I've done nothing else yet.
