I've started reading Claire North's 84K.

I have a 50-50 hit rate with Claire North. Loved The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and have read it three times in the last couple of years. Read Touch and found it a bit meh and found it dragged by the end.

But... I saw 84K at the library and it has some rave reviews and so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm 130 pages in (of 452) and so far it's interesting. Not totally gripped but not bored either.

So I finished it. Not bad. Better than Touch not as good as Harry August. I felt like the central premise was simple enough that it didn't need 450 pages to tell the story and could have done it justice in 300ish. Then again given the subject matter maybe the point was to

create a sense of grim determination to finish in the reader, to mirror that of the protagonist

On to another library book next - Sarah Canary by Karen Joy Fowler.
