If you go over to Amazon Kindle forums and read through the threads there, you will find that the vast majority indeed DO want folders and complain long and loudly about the fact they are missing. It is not a minority issue. It is also one of the biggest complaints that you find in a Google search about Kindle cons.
I returned my Kindle 2 today, 6 hours after getting it, because I found that it does not give me the ability to sort and file my content the way I want to. I agree that having 1500 MB of space is pointless when I have to thumb through 10 pages of books to find a specific title in the "A" section. I can't separate my fiction from non-fiction, or my history from my philosophy.
Using folders to organize content has been the staple of every computer system since DOS was invented. That it is missing from the Kindle 2 is mind-boggling stupid, in my opinion.
I'll have to stick with my PRS-505 until that user created folder option is available....
