What version of Windows are you running (if you're running Windows)? Even if Nook for PC stops working, the
Windows Nook app (freely available in the Microsoft store for Windows 8 and 10) should continue to work. It does allow you to download books, just like Nook for PC, though they are stored in a different folder. Honestly, if you can install and run the Windows Nook app, I don't understand why you would continue to fuss with Nook for PC anyway.
I buy the majority of my books from Amazon at this point, but if you're interested in sticking with B&N, Nook for PC is not your only way in.
