I've been listening to the Rhys Bowen "Molly Murphy" historical mystery series, and she's definitely one of those. I know when you start a new series about a character who sort of finds herself solving mysteries (as opposed to an PI or a police procedure) that there's a bit of a learning curve. But I'm 4 books in and she hasn't learned a blessed thing.
