In Calibre, I have the ebook in azw3 and mobi. When I transfer a book to Kindle that I did not buy from Amazon, I know it shows up under Documents, but what format are these ebooks in, mobi, pdf, or epub? I thought all ebooks listed under Documents were supposed to be one of these formats.
What does the book look like in the Calibre viewer, a locally installed Kindle app or on your Paperwhite if you connect via USB and transfer the file to your Kindle either using Calibre or direct copy? The phrase that comes to mind is GIGO.

BTW, I don't see epub on the Kindle Personal Documents Service list of supported formats.
