I thought you might have solved the mystery when you mentioned a card problem--I DID have a malfunctioning card a few months back that I had to replace, and I suspected I might not have tried to change the Hoopla settings after the replacement. So I optimistically once again changed the settings, powered off and then on (just in case that would help the new settings take effect), borrowed a book and tapped to download. And, once again, my hopes were dashed--Hoopla told me Something went wrong, try again.

So I changed the settings back, and downloaded with no problem. Mystery remains unsolved.

I poked around the phone settings to see if there was anything about how the card was treated, but if there is, I couldn't find it.
