I would like to nominate Rebecca West's The Return of the Soldier.

From the description:

The book's events take place almost exclusively during the summer months, and there are some beautiful descriptions of the weather and countryside.

Some Pros:
  • The book is in the public domain, and therefore FREE
  • It is properly a novella (clocking in at around 110 pages), which might be nice for busy summer months
  • "Shifting English class structures"
  • Elizabeth Klett, a very popular LibriVox reader, did the audiobook.
