Qualcomm's Mirasol technology appeared, but was disappointing in practice and went nowhere.
Amazon seem to have given up on LiquaVista.
Bridgestone (yes the tyre company) has given up on their ePaper.
The only technology currently being developed seems to be ClearINK. Let's hope they bring something to market soon.

Mirasol was 'good enough'. Even without any improvements to the screen quality itself, the advances in frontlights (like Kobo's rgb), processors and batteries would allow manufacturers to offer a compelling Mirasol ereader today imo. Apple/Google/Samsung have abandoned ~6-7" tablets so there are no good
