Tristan's Lament is a medieval song, composer unknown, I speculated it may have been Guillaume de Machaut (1300-1377). After searching for "Tristan" and listening to the first few bars of the song posted by PoP I decided it wasn't the same as the one I posted.

My ear is not good enough to tell me whether the heavily (over) orchestrated "Tristan" from Stardust is derived from the Lament of Tristan I posted.

OT: to my ear there are of echoes Tristan's Lament in Jaques Brel's "Ne me quitte pas", which you may know as "If you go away".
