You can edit the data using the Metadata Edit dialogue, or directly into the book-list cells via the F2 key where Tab/Backtab will traverse the cells whilst remaining in cell-edit mode. The latter is my preferred method.

The earlier post from theducks has explained how to get the new metadata into the ebook format files. If you use the Send to Device and/or Save to Disk tools the files(s) Sent and Saved will have the current metadata, some users prefer that the files within the library remain in their original state.

If its an EPUB or AZW3 (KF8) file open it in the calibre editor, find the image you want, copy it to the desktop and drag/drop it onto the book details panel (right sidebar). Similarly, if its a PDF open it in a PDF editor, find the image and do the same thing.

You can use calibre's Open With feature to configure external tools for different file types (formats) - e.g. Acrobat for PDF, Word for DOCX etc. Right click the format in the Book Details panel to access the feature, a format can have many external tools - e.g for DOCX I have MS Word, LO Writer and WinRAR.

I’ve tested Calibre’s metadata search and it seems to have problems with finding light novels, some comic books and the right manga volume #’s. Are there sites, that I can add to settings so it can find the metadata?
For regular books, the primary item you need for retrieving metadata from external sources is the ISBN. The Extract ISBN plugin will help with that.
