IMHO, there's an easier Sigil solution. Simply define a clip:
1. Select
Tools > Clip Editor > Add Entry.
2. Enter
doublequotes in the
Name field and
“\1” in the
Text field.
3. Click
Save and
Close.
4. Right-click an empty spot in the main toolbar and check
Clip Bar, if it isn't already checked.
To apply the clip, highlight text and click the
doublequotes entry in the
Clip Bar or right-click and and select
doublequotes from the Clips menu. (You can also assign a custom keyboard shortcut to the clip.)
