I did the primary battery thing with the Librie, never ever saw anything like 10,000 page turns per set of AAA's (even Eveready Lithiums at $12 a set.) I used mine every single day and pushed so many secondary (eventually I gave up on Primary Batteries) battery cycles through its battery compartment that the plastic failed.

What I longed for was a consumer feature Sony used to build into their portable Mini-Disc units, a battery compartment that took primary or secondary AA/AAA batteries. The unit would recharge the secondary batteries if they were installed, and if the secondary batteries went flat in the field you could pull 'em and stick in a fresh set of readily available primaries.

Now an iLiad that could do that would be pretty sweet in my experience.
