For me ...

1) Cheap, well-formatted "classic books" from Amazon
2) Borrow books from my library via Overdrive

I don't worry about collections. Just go by author.

Unfortunately, a lot of the independent stuff I've run into isn't really worth reading. A lot of it reminds me of the old "vanity press" books.

(I back up my Amazon books on Calibre. I also format books bought from other sources (usually ePub) for the Kindle, via Calibre.)
