This tome almost belongs on the "Non-Fiction" thread, instead of this "Cookbooks" thread. While it has some recipes here and there (of dishes from ancient times), it is mainly about a
history of food, as the title suggests:
Food Through the Ages: From Stuffed Dormice to Pineapple Hedgehogs.
Amazon has the Kindle version for $9.99, but our friends at Pen & Sword, across the Pond, have it for only .99p, or about
$1.40 at today's exchange rate (
http://xe.com), and after some conversion fees and such.
The book is 128 pages long. There are no ratings yet. However, the author, Anna Selby, has written a slew of books, and they consistently get high marks. It's a buy for me, especially at this low price.
While there are few recipes, I certainly hope that there's a recipe for that fermented fish paste stuff that the ancient Romans loved so much. And the stuffed dormice sounds delectable, too. Yum, yum!
