I think it's too late. Most people say "kleenex" rather than "tissue" - even though, if they think about it, they know that Kleenex is a brand name. It doesn't really matter as the concept is still conveyed properly.

I would say "electronic book reader" or "eBook reader" - but it's so much simpler to just say "eReader". (When somebody knows what I'm talking about, though, I do just say "Reader".)
