A thought occured to me after I answered your question. When you buy software, you can make a safekeeping copy. When I want to put a CD on my iPod I make a copy, not for resale, for personal use. I keep my records. The iPod lets me listen to music in conditions my CDs won't let me.

Anything can happen to an electronic copy and be destroyed faster than the original book. So you could lend your books to someone with space... for safekeeping.
