Well...Californians tend to think they live in the best place in the world. (I know, I know, Paris....) Anyway, Texans tend to be unimpressed with anywhere, (except maybe Hawaii), and don't tend to humor other people's egos. (They're too busy humoring their own...) So Californians tend to look down upon Texan as uncouth yokels, and Texans consider them to be narcissist mirror watchers... Here's a real-life example from 1976.

I am looking at the mudpots in Lassen National Park in the Sierra moutains in 1976 when accosted by a californian.

Californian - Where are you from?

RSE - South Texas.

Californian - Isn't this (California) the best place you've ever been?

RSE - No.

Californian - (Taken Aback) Why not?

RSE - Too many people. I've just driven from Sacremento to San Francisco, up the coast to Oregon and back down the central valley and went up mountain here at Lassen. I never got out of sight of a house the whole time. I'm at 9,000 feet (3,000 meters) and still there's crowds.

Californian - Oh. (Kinda sidles off, acting like I had a contagious disease.)
