I agree with you. I would at least like the option of selecting the delivery company. I think two things are driving it (so to speak), first cost reduction and second Sunday delivery/Same Day delivery/local delivery. They use the same thing for the Whole Food delivery (i.e. independent contractor using his or her personal car). I don't mind it for the Whole Food since it's really not that different from what we have been doing for pizza delivery for years, but I'm not as keen on using it for package delivery.

I order coffee from a local company and get it delivered via Fed Ex, usually the next day.
