I've just re-tested
Kovid Goyal's Calibre docx test file with the 04/20/2018 nightly build and got the same epub output.
The epub converter still has the following major issues:
Tables: one of the test tables (ITEM, NEEDED) didn't make it into the epub and a nested table was incorrectly converted.
Footnotes/Endnotes/Internal Links: footnotes, endnotes and internal links aren't supported.
Images: all images are stripped from the output.
Lists: standard list formats aren't supported.
