Our other 505 looks identical to the one used for the photo, so I don't think the variation is among the Sony readers. However, we don't have another Kindle 2 handy-- one drawback of not being able to hit the local store to check them out.
Again, it is a pretty small difference. Looking at the two side by side you can see it, but it's not in any way as pronounced as the difference between the PRS-500 and 505 for example. My senior editor didn't even see the difference (she was too busy being enamored by the Kindle 2's nicer font!). I am in contrast a stickler for whiter grays
