On my KA1, I really only used Koreader for certain PDF documents, and for reading in Chinese, mainly because of the various dictionaries I could install. For everything else, and especially for Japanese, I used the native Kobo software.
Sometimes, opening a book took a while. However, never experienced a problem with page turns. Perhaps that's because I'm such a slow reader. Guess it just moved along at my leisurely speed.
But I do agree that the experience on the Note is better for most things and it offers so much more potential for doing other things.
