Yes and no.
Of course if they open-sourced some enthusiasts will gather and patch, expand, contribute fixing etc.
But in the context of 3rd party apps, we cannot in general modify code: we can fork open products if they need linking to the Onyx SDK; we can publish patched packages (that's what I do, if you noticed around); we can hardly touch commercial products, especially MS I would say.
