like he said - i have twice bought " last years" case - cheap , for "this years" amazon tablet only to find it does not quite fit and/or the auto sleep wake does not work. happened with the HD 8 and the HD 10

the amazon cover for the current HD10 is very good. last years amazon hd10 cover does not quite fit the current model - I had to give the one I bought cheap on ebay to charity.

with the HD 8, the "wrong year" covers did fit but no autosleep/wake. I actually returned 2 third party ones as "defective" before I realised that i had my years/generations muddled.

amazon has regular sales on device accessories which can save you a few £s
