Backlight intensity changes itself

I normally have backlight intensity set to around 15%, which I find is enough for reading in dim conditions. If I'm reading outside or in a bright room, I turn the backlight off, and then turn it on again at night. The problem I have is that I frequently find that the backlight resets itself to a much brighter level than the 15% - eg after bringing it out of sleep this morning, instead of the 15% to which it was set when I put it to sleep last night, it was now set to 42%, though I had made no change to the level.

Is this a known problem? My Aura HD has current 4.7.10413 F/W installed, though I've had this problem on and off with multiple different F/W levels ever since I bought this ereader several years ago.
