@dstone - in the Read this before Posting PDF Questions sticky at the top of this sub-forum a number of PDF issues are addressed.

At one time I was converting a lot of PDFs (dozens a day). After investigating several alternatives I settled on doing the initial convert with Mobipocket's Creator, and then used calibre to convert the resultant PRC either to EPUB or to RTF. My main objective was to have a consistent process over lots of PDFs rather than an optimal process for one PDF.
