Best of all, the Strindle comes pre-loaded with every book in the store....
I looked in on the Strand many years ago, and was like a dog in a field full of rabbits-- didn't know which one to chase. I stayed at an equivalently distinctive hotel, at E 25th and 3rd, called the Carlton Arms. $25 a night, who was I to complain. No lift, no room service, baths down the corridor. The place was consantly being redecorated by students at the Baruch art college opposite. My room was a brave stab at Mondrian. The corrisor, painted black, was ornamented with Egyprian bas-reliefs, clearly moulded from life, fitted with Egyptian head dresses and painted in gold, lapis lazulii etc.
Memorable, like the Strand.
