The touch sensitive layer on top of the screen adversely affects the screen clarity - it's not particularly "transparent".

It's really a very different machine. Not particularly an "upgrade". Unlike the 505, which was a straight replacement for the 500, the 700 is not a replacement for the 505; both will continue to be sold.
