Is it possible to make the Series Number field extend to three decimal places?

I am cataloging a large number of Pulps and use the Series Number field to sort by Volume and Number, eg. 90.01 for volume 90, number one. I have some older pulps that are Volume xx, number yyy. This has led to a breakdown in my indexing, and is quite annoying. if it is not possible to change the number of decimal places in calibre, does anyone have an idea for a workaround?
