That doesn't make sense: buy a $20 gift card. Use it to buy $18 worth of ebooks. Buy something else which costs more than $2. If you use the remaining gift card balance then there is one credit card charge for this purchase. If you don't use the remaining gift card balance then there is one credit card charge for this purchase. Either way it's two charges.
Again, I don't see how using up the gift card balance is a problem.
