Well ladies and gents...things got weird this evening.
Tuesday of this week I received a text from DHL that a package was on it's way.
To remind you, that's about 6 days since my last communication with goodereader with an understanding by both sides that a credit chargeback was in process.
Sure enough, a package coming from China shipping out a week late from the original agreed date of "tomorrow" and "immediately".
I called DHL and asked them to return to sender. They agreed to do so.
But then things get REAL strange.
Tonight, Thursday...8 days since my last communication with this company and well after everything is done, I get a call.
I don't recognize the number but it was "PETER WITH GOODEREADER DOT COM"
I obviously don't have transcripts, so you will have to take my word this is almost verbatim the conversation:
Peter: hi this is Peter at goodereader.com
Me: yes, what can I do for you
Peter: I see you ordered an e-reader
Me: yes. I've already notified your company that I requested a credit chargeback. I've also cancelled the DHL and set it to Return to Sender.
Peter: well why didn't you call us?
Me: I tried. No one answered.
Peter: did you email us we would have given you a refund.
Me: No. I wanted to message your company with confirmation of receipt of message and your website only has a open-ended contact form.
Peter: well that form sends an email to us and you could have used that to ask for a refund instead of going to your credit card company.
*At this point I can't tell if he's already being accusatory or just doesn't like my answers, but regardless he's getting tense and working the same angle as the chat logs that it's all my fault that they can't answer the phone and stopped answering their social media and send out the product late, beyond the agreed timeline. I should have emailed...forget the item shipping one week late despite me canceling. I don't feel like telling him that they have a long history of running poor service and what seems to be a scam and that I simply want away from their company...all the stuff in this thread that's shady. I don't have the time or energy to debate any of it while traveling*
Me: look, I really don't have time to have you explain how it's my fault. Thank you. Bye bye.
And then things get real weird
Peter emails me to get the last word.
See the attachment screenshot.
I ordered this product under my company as I use it to read scientific articles and references primarily. My company name makes reference to MD.
Peter has chosen to use my ordering information as a character attack. Or maybe he decided to dox me.
He brings up my work in the medical field as to why I owe him rehashing something already handled with his company. Why he is calling me phone and I owe him listening to him.
Beyond the unprofessional level of this, I hope that this public record will show others who these guys are.
I still can't determine if this is total incompetence in supply chain and immaturity, or if they are actively malicious.
But given Peter's focus on my work, totally unrelated do anything to do with purchasing an e-reader and then canceling the order, we will have to see if he knows when to stop. Or if he is immature enough to get in too deep with such moves.
And in the end, I was right about the charade.
The product shipped a week later than they agreed/offered.
They have none actually in stock.
The item is shipping from onyx in China.
Who knows if they would have actually refunded me. The item shipped while the charge is in dispute.
I'm not home so would have never got the Note on their delayed timeline. I am glad the Max2 came back in stock on Amazon. Onyx emailed me to let me know it was in stock, I ordered, and had it 2 days later.
So we'll see if this is the end of the saga...
I would not order from these guys. I would not trust my personal info with such individuals.
