They didn't make it user replaceable because that's one of the things you sacrifice when you make the product that thin. I'm sure there were two thoughts with regard to changing the battery .... 1. if we have the user send it in, we'll make more money (I call this the Apple model) and 2. if we let the user change the battery, you just know they are going to break this thing.
