The soft end I mentioned in my original post is stable and would be the replacement for the needle end in a regular maths compass. It wouldn't damage the screen. But the problem is that it would activate the touch screen.



Cushioning the needle end with such a soft end on this compass, and just putting a stylus where the pencil goes could work.
