I love my Kindle, but since you live in Canada, and no one know when Amazon will be expanding their service there, I would suggest you go with the Sony.
Why? Because the Sony is also an excellent device, (as our Sony owners will attest to,, and you would be doing yourself and your wife a disservice by not having one.
The free books available here and elsewhere, the freedom to carry your library with you, the sheer convenience is awesome.
