There were some detailed discussions about suitable magnets you could buy in one of these MR forums a couple of years ago. You might like to try a couple of searches to see if you can track it down.

I have a vague memory about 'rare earth' magnets being discussed. They need to be fairly strong, I think.

Some people were successful using the magnet from the back of one of their fridge magnets. However, this didn't work with any of mine which all seemed too weak. I ended up using a small rectangular magnet which came out of an old electric toothbrush head. My husband's discovery, not mine

You can easily test whether any household magnet is going to be suitable just by holding it a couple of millimetres above the screen in the 'right place'. I don't know how much this 'right place' varies across different devices but on my various Kobos it always seems to be roughly 1-inch-above and 1-inch-left of the bottom right corner of the screen (not the bezel).
